One Photo, A Thousand Stories (Photography Workshop with Carmina Morgado)
Sensory Photography is a dynamic and experiential workshop designed to explore photography through the connection of the heart, mind, and gaze. Through a series of creative activities, participants will practice photography as a way of observing, feeling, and interpreting the world around them. Participants will play, reflect, and experience the image-making process while questioning what it means to photograph in a world where it often feels like everything has already been captured. Through observation, experimentation, and conversation, photography becomes a tool for connection, memory, storytelling, and exploring the relationship between the intimate and the community. This workshop welcomes all audiences interested in photography, from beginners discovering their visual voice to experienced photographers looking to refresh their creative perspective.
Please bring your own photography device (anything from an iphone camera to DSLR will work!) and writing materials.

Introduction to Beginning Hand Bookbinding
In this two-hour introductory workshop, writers and book lovers are invited to experience the book not simply as a vessel for words, but as a crafted object.
Participants will learn the fundamentals of traditional book structure—from folded sheets to a simple finished form—while becoming familiar with the materials, tools, and techniques of hand bookbinding. Along the way, we’ll explore the anatomy of the book and the tactile relationship between structure, paper, and the written word.
Each participant will leave with a hand-bound single-section book of their own making, foundational binding skills, and a deeper understanding of the craftsmanship behind the books we read, write, and treasure.

We Wish You a Messy Christmas
This Christmas, the perfect gift might just be learning to let go and love the chaos.
It's Christmastime, and Olivia Bradshaw is dating her childhood neighbor, veterinarian Malcolm McEntire. Life should be merry, but Olivia is worried about her mother Jane's reaction to this budding romance. Their families couldn't be more different. Perfectionist Jane cannot tolerate the unorganized, messy, fun-loving McEntires, and the thought of being permanently linked as in-laws will surely send her over the edge.
Desperate to save both Christmas and her romance, Olivia and her dad concoct an intervention to turn Jane's holidays into a big mess. But they barely launch their plan before fate intervenes with a serendipitous mess of its own.
In this delightful Christmas novella full of faith and hope, Melody Carlson delivers small-town charm, family dynamics, and a sweet contemporary romance perfect for the holiday season. Read more about the book here.

Marina Richie presents Feathered Forest: Aloft with Birds in Ancient Trees
In Feathered Forest, award-winning nature writer Marina Richie entwines the lives of birds with a hidden vertical world of wild trees. A narrative of perception change, memoir, and kinship, Feathered Forest is a soaring ode to birds and wild trees.
Beginning with an ascent of a 200-foot-tall Douglas-fir with a bird biologist, author Marina Richie leads us from her home in Central Oregon into the ancient forests of Cascadia, a bioregion which rivals the Amazonian rainforest in significance for climate and biodiversity. Birds are guides to intricate and imperiled communities thriving at every level, from understory to midstory to overstory. They steer us to cool havens within multilayered, centuries-old groves that are critical refugia in a time of climate crisis. Their songs and flights show us what we must protect for the future of threatened birds, forests, and humankind.
Marina’s reading will weave in relevant sections for the Sisters audience, from ancient forests lining the Metolius River to the oldest western juniper. She will highlight individuals from Central Oregon making a difference for birds and forests, and offer tangible conservation actions.
Marina Richie is an award-winning nature writer with a passion for birds and wild places. Her book Halcyon Journey: In Search of the Belted Kingfisher received the 2024 John Burroughs Medal for distinguished natural history writing, a 2022 National Outdoor Book Award (gold), band a Foreword Indies Award (silver). Through prose and poetry, Marina seeks to bridge the divide separating people from nature. Her essays, blogs, and poems appear in popular and literary magazines. Marina has a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Montana and an undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Oregon. She lives in Bend, Oregon, with her husband Wes and tends a bird-friendly yard.

Magnus Johnson presentingThe Men We Make
The Men We Make explores a haunting question: How drastically can a single life change when love replaces indifference, when support takes the place of cruelty, when someone, anyone, decides to lift instead of push down?
Through parallel narratives of the same boy's journey, this novel doesn't offer easy answers or false hope. Instead, it dives unflinchingly into the raw reality of emotional damage, family dysfunction, and the weight of simply surviving. Yet within that darkness lies a profound truth: no life is beyond redemption when the people around us choose to believe in possibility.
Heartbreaking and hopeful in equal measure, The Men We Make reminds us that who we become is shaped not only by our hardships, but by those who refuse to let us face them alone.
Magnus Johnson is a former Green Beret, Bronze Star recipient, and co-founder of Mission 22, a national nonprofit dedicated to ending the veteran suicide epidemic. He has spent his life studying what breaks men and what builds them, first on the battlefield, then in the long, often invisible struggle of coming home.
After leaving the military, Johnson faced what so many veterans face: the disorienting work of rebuilding identity outside the uniform. That journey, through art, mindfulness, community, and faith, became the foundation for everything he has built. This includes Mission 22's Recovery + Resiliency program, designed to help veterans transform trauma into Post Traumatic Growth.
